Tired of fitness yoga that feels hollow, alignment yoga that feels rigid, and flow classes that don’t even teach YOGA? Or maybe you skipped the whole yoga thing because… where’s the passion, where’s the FIRE?

Welcome to the Dancing the Dragon Retreat — a no-bullshit yoga immersion that ignites your life force, liberates your energy, and teaches you how to burn up your shit (beliefs, patterns & trauma) in the fire & joy of practice.

Over four days and three nights, Kara-Leah, with support from Gaia, will lead you in the intentional co-creation of an alchemising field of movement, mantra, breath, prayer and ceremony.

Practices include meditation, asana, pranayama, chanting, visualisation, yoga trance dance, and embodied inquiry.

This is yoga, but not as you know it.

Our practices focus on attuning to, activating, and channelling Kundalini-Śakti so you can burn through old emotions, patterns, and beliefs, revealing the magnificence of your essence nature.

Grounded in the non-dual Tantrik tradition of Trika Shaivism, Dancing the Dragon offers a direct, embodied experience of the union of Awareness (Śiva) & Energy (Śakti)—the fundamental pulsation (spanda) of existence.

Held on the shores of Kootenay Lake in the stillness of the forest, The Sentinel offers the perfect container for transformation. Between sessions, savour nourishing meals, rest in comfortable beds, and soak in the cedar hot tub, wood-fired sauna, or copper cold plunge.

We have exclusive use of the property, creating a sanctuary for liberation and renewal—sending you home with embodied practices to support the ongoing process of liberation in your daily life.

Dancing the Dragon at The Sentinel

  • Full Program Immersion with KL

Immerse in Dancing the Dragon’s blend of movement, mantra, breath, and awareness. Each day, we'll do a variety of practices that support students to learn how to 'dance the dragon'. KL also works intimately with each participant via Circle to support the awakening & liberation process that unfolds in this container. Our Venue's 180° lake, mountain, and forest views keep you connected to nature while held in a purpose-built space for expansion. Props, meditation cushions, and mats are provided – or bring your own.

  • 3 Nights Accommodation
(four days onsite)

This retreat unfolds in a place alive with sacred energy — a sanctuary where the natural world holds and nourishes you as deeply as the practices themselves. Choose the accommodation that best supports you and your budget: rest in comfort with a private room and ensuite bath, share the journey in a twin shared room, or sleep close to the elements by camping under the stars (own camper required). See full details below, and once your deposit is made, you’ll select your option in the registration form.

  • Sacred Fire Ceremony with Gaia

Across cultures, Fire has been revered as messenger, teacher, and ally: in Native traditions, the living spirit that unites community and carries prayers skyward; in the Vedic tradition, Agni, the purifier and divine witness to all offerings. This ceremony is an invitation to step into that same sacred stream — to release distortions, to remember your original light & to engage with Fire as a force of transformation. Learn to tend flame as sacred, offer prayers, call on spirit, hold space, and weave Fire into your life as a path of renewal.

  • Unlimited Outdoor Spa Access (during breaks)

FAQ

  • What is Dancing the Dragon & is it Beginner friendly??

Dancing the Dragon is an embodied approach to yoga practice, anchored in the View Teachings of Tantrik Yoga (Non-Dual Tantrik Shaivism, or Trika Shaivism). Rather than being a single set practice, it offers a way of engaging yoga that weaves together prayer, invocation, asana, dance, shaking, meditation, chanting, and pranayama. The name Dancing the Dragon DOES NOT refer to an ecstatic dance practice. The “dance” refers to the way we interact with Kundalinī-Śakti as it moves through us—the inner dance of Awareness (Śiva) and Energy (Śakti), not necessarily external dancing of the body. It's VERY beginner-friendly! The beauty of Dancing the Dragon lies in how it meets each participant exactly where they are, allowing for whatever modifications or variations are needed. Rather than fixed movements or poses, it invites you to attune to the flow of energy within and allow yourself to be moved.

  • Do I need to be a Tantrik Yoga pracitioner? And isn't Tantra all about sex?

No. Kara-Leah focuses on applying the teachings of Tantra to our modern lives to reduce suffering. It's about learning the practice and making it work for you. Anyone can benefit from the teachings & practices, whether or not they follow Tantra. If you are a Tantrik Practitioner, you will receive many valuable teachings and practices that deepen your study and application of Tantra. Oh, bless! That's Neo-Tantra. Traditional Tantra is focused on embodied liberation & awakening. We will learn some practices related to working with sexual energy that are internal and have nothing to do with sexual expression.

  • I have injuries or body limitations - is this retreat suitable for me?

It depends on the scope of your injury and what's happening in your body - this practice can be medicine for supporting rehabilitation and ongoing healing, and all variations and modifications are welcome. Contact KL via email (below) to discuss if your injury is more recent.

  • Can I share a room with my lover / friend / family?

Yes! Many rooms can be shared, either with two separate beds or with one King bed. If you are sharing, each person pays the twin room price. On the registration form, let me know whether you want to share a room with two beds or share one King bed, and I will allocate you accordingly.

  • Can you accommodate special dietary needs / requests?

Yes! Gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan choices will be available, with a vegetarian diet encouraged (meat available if needed). I also encourage participants to bring snacks if they so desire.

  • How do I get to the Sentinel Retreat Centre & is there car pooling available??

The Sentinel sits just outside Kaslo, BC, and is easily reached by car. From Nelson, it’s about a one-hour scenic drive along Kootenay Lake. From Vancouver or Squamish, plan for a 9–10 hour drive, or fly into Castlegar (2 hours from Kaslo) or Kelowna (5 hours). Airport transfers can be arranged from these or other major airports. Driving from Calgary takes about 7.5 hours, either south through Fernie or west through Revelstoke. After you pay your deposit, you'll be sent a link to the Google Registration Form. If you would like to carpool, you can let me know in that form, and I will connect any participants from the same area to arrange carpooling amongst themselves.

  • Will there be time between sessions to visit Kaslo or the Hot Springs?

This retreat is a closed container, which means the request is that everyone stays on-site for the duration between the Opening Ceremony (Friday 4 pm) and the Closing Ceremony (Monday 10 am. The property is spectacular and you're welcome to enjoy the sauna, hot tub, lake, forest and general ambience in our downtime. If you'd like to see more of the surrounding area, I suggest booking an extra night's accommodation locally.

Fire Ceremonialist

Gaia Sophia

My credentials do not define me, yet they reflect my devotion to service in these times — BA in Psychology, MA in Counselling, Healer, Teacher, Mother, Feminine Leader, and bridge between Spirit and Matter. I weave the unseen into the seen, restoring what has been distorted so the shared field may return to the radiant I AM — purity expressed from the inside out. My work flows both ways: individually to affect the collective, and collectively to transform the individual. As a long-time ceremonialist and embodiment of the Divine Feminine, I hold containers that are welcoming, safe, alive, sacred, and uniquely attuned to those present. Based in Squamish, BC, my work extends internationally, guided by love, mystery, and the intelligence of the Earth/Stars.
